Dear Parents and Teachers,

While working as a teaching assistant I was thankful for the opportunity to encourage children to love reading and writing. I retired after twenty-one years of working in the Swansboro area schools. (North Carolina)

Before I began working as a teaching assistant I wrote articles and columns for two local newspapers. After retiring I began a freelance writing business and wrote nonfiction stories, and also published two books for children.

On This Farm There Was a Noise is about problems, and finding solutions that work. It is also about how our actions and decisions often affect others, although we may not realize it, and that problems can sometimes be blessings in disguise.

Granny Louise is based on stories I heard as a child. In my grandmother's day people often provided goods and services to each other based on what they could afford. Sometimes they simply traded goods. Most people farmed or fished for a living and each family had a unique way of helping their neighbors.

This story is also about patience, hard work, and trying new things. Granny Louise has a coastal theme and was illustrated by local artist, Mitchell Morton. He is well-known here in eastern North Carolina and throughout the United States for his beautiful coastal art.

Both of my books reflect reality in human nature and the emotions we feel. As a writer it's my wish that children enjoy my stories as well as make connections within their own families and communities.

Best wishes always,

Carol
